Description
The Juliet Balcony is a railing placed across a raised window or door opening to create an effect on the balcony. The title ‘ Juliet Balcony ‘ is a bit misleading – it is derived from the famous scene in Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, although a balcony is not actually mentioned in the play (Juliet only ‘ appears at a window ‘). Moreover, such balconies were not in use until after the death of Shakespeare. We still think that a beautiful feature is a suitable name!
Balconies are understandably popular and desirable, but they require space, usually an extension, which is why they are very expensive. Juliet balconies allow homeowners to add a balcony to their property without the extra cost and can be done without expanding the house and therefore in many cases without needing permission to design. There are exceptions, such as living in a conservation area or having a floor on the balcony, no matter how slim. Only a Juliet balcony can be allowed at the back of your property. Before proceeding, check with your local planning authority is always worthwhile.
In any upstairs room, Juliet balconies can add light, air and space illusion. They can add value to a property and are suitable for both domestic and business / office uses. We are also completely safe: the glass we use is our stainless steel rails with a diameter of 42,4 mm, wall fasteners, side-fixed braces, glass clamps and 10 mm thick, clear, toughened safety glass.
